This satellite is the most volcanic world in the solar system. There are more than 400 volcanoes on it.
The Juno spacecraft has sent some of the best and clearest images of Jupiter’s moon Io back to Earth. ScienceAlert writes about it.
The photo was taken up close with its JunoCam camera.
Jason Perry, one of Juno’s imaging experts, said the images show large lava flows stretching hundreds of kilometers in the form of lava rivers.
It is noted that in this way Juno made the third of nine planned approaches to Io at a little more than 50 thousand km and the next time it will take satellite images in May this year from a distance of 35 thousand km.
The device will fly closest to Io in February 2024. The distance will be only 1500 km.
