The sun, the sea and the pool are very common factors during the summer, but too much of this can be harmful to the skin; see how to care!
Who doesn’t love that flushed face of someone who just got off the beach or a tan that’s perfect for summer? The hottest season of the year is perfect for enjoying the sun, the sea and the pool, but it is also a period that requires extra care for your skin.
As the new season approaches, the question arises as to whether it is possible to continue using acids in your skincare routine. Contrary to what many people think, the arrival of summer does not mean it is time to abandon treatments, but rather to make adaptations to keep your skin healthy and protected.
Dermatologist and co-founder of Clínica Dominique Dr. Vivian Simões Pires explains: “It is very important that we maintain our skin care routine during the summer, including the use of specific acids. For example, if we use retinoic acid in winter, we make a gradual change, we reduce the concentration of retinoic acid and, when summer arrives, we use another type of acid that does not cause problems when used in this season.”
Valuable tips
The most important thing is that we maintain care with sun protection, this will ensure that we do not experience any harm from the use of acid in the summer and that we are able to continue our skincare treatments”, he concludes.
To help you take care of your skin and enjoy the season without giving up acids, we’ve listed five essential tips for adapting your summer skincare routine:
- Use lighter acids: choose acids that are recommended for use during periods of greater sun exposure, such as mandelic acid or tranexamic acid. They are aggressive and offer benefits to the skin without the risk of blemished skin;
- Less is more: no need to weigh your hands! In summer, it is recommended to reduce the frequency of application. Instead of using acids every day, reduce it to two or three times a week;
- Use sunscreen: remember: your best friend in summer is sunscreen! In addition to applying it generously in the morning during your skincare routine, reapply every two hours, especially if you are exposed to the sun. Protection against UVA and UVB rays is essential to avoid stains and damage;
- Don’t forget hydration: The use of acids can make the skin more sensitive, and exposure to the sun intensifies this condition. Therefore, keeping your skin hydrated is essential! To do this, use products suitable for your skin type;
- Be careful with sun exposure: Even using sunscreen, avoid being exposed to the sun immediately after applying acids. Prefer to use them at night and, during the day, use hats, caps or visors and even umbrellas to create an additional physical barrier of protection against the sun.
