The meeting is scheduled for 2pm, at Praça Sete, in the center of the capital of Minas Gerais
The city of Belo Horizonte (BH) will host, on Saturday, the 25th, the first edition of the LGBT+ Black Parade, with a gathering scheduled for 2pm, at Praça Sete, in the center of the capital of Minas Gerais. Organized by Rede Afro LGBT-MG, the event aims to highlight the intersectionality between racial and LGBT+ issues, promoting a racialized discussion about the challenges faced.
After the gathering, a sound car will travel along Avenida Amazonas towards Rua Guaicurus. During the route, carnival groups such as Angola Janga, Samba da Meia Noite, Abalô-caxi and Afoxé Bandarerê will participate in the mobilization. On Rua Guaicurus, dance groups, drag queens and DJs will perform until 10pm, the scheduled time for dispersion.
The debut theme, “Do Erê ao Ancestral”, draws attention to violence against black people.
The choice of the date for the event is symbolic, as May 25th is World Africa Day.
Thiago Santos, state coordinator of Rede Afro and member of the Municipal Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality (COMPIR), states that the expectation is to consolidate an annual agenda for the movement, dialoguing with people who are unaware of the agenda and guiding public policies for this population.
