Expert teaches how to make conscious choices to save and help the planet
According to data released by the UN (United Nations), Brazil is the tenth country that wastes most food in the world: there are about 23 tons thrown in the trash annually. Due to the food uncertainty of more than 60 million Brazilians (according to the UN), reducing food waste is essential to fight hunger and preserve the planet, also considering that the country is back on the hunger map.
With that in mind, Vinícius Alves, CEO of Gooxxy (greentech pioneer in replacement solutions for consumer goods that would be discarded by the industry), lists 4 tips to help in this mission. Check out!
1. Plan your food purchase
The ideal is to share the responsibilities of this step with at least some of those involved in the home routine. However, focusing this distribution on one person helps to have more control in the planning. So talk to people about what they would like to eat and drink and how much each one can contribute. This will result in greater assertiveness in choosing food. It is also necessary to go shopping with a prepared list.
two. Calculate the amount of food per person
There are several party websites that calculate the amount of food and drink per person, considering children and adults. They can also filter the occasion, such as birthday, Christmas dinner, wedding, etc. This measure can considerably reduce the amount of food wasted.
3. Use national brands
When we talk about waste, we cannot fail to mention money. Often, replacing imported brands with national ones can have a considerable impact on expenses. Furthermore, there are several retail products – produced by major brands – that, as they do not meet the aesthetic standards of the company, cannot be sold by the company itself. These items leave the industries and are replaced in other establishments, without the packaging or label of the brand that produced them, for a much lower value.
4. Pay attention to storage
Pay attention to the expiry dates of the products and how to store them, especially the fruits, vegetables and legumes. When it comes to these items, buying too many can be a sure way to waste.
