Canada, following France, called on its citizens to leave Belarus.
These countries fear that military action may block citizens in Belarus. They call to leave immediately for Lithuania, Poland or Latvia.
Also today, the US called on its citizens to leave Russia. The government fears that US citizenship will be ignored by the Russian authorities, and its owner may be mobilized and sent to war or arrested.
The United States publishes such statements periodically. The last public request to leave Russia was made in September 2022, after Putin announced a partial mobilization in Russia.
The ability of the Canadian Embassy in Poland to provide consular services in Belarus is very limited. If you are in Belarus, you should leave the country by commercial transport, the Canadian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It is noted that Canadians “should avoid traveling to Belarus due to the risk of selective application of local laws and armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
Brazil on February 13 also called on its citizens to leave Russia and Belarus.
France does not recommend its citizens to travel to Belarus, and also urges all those who are there to leave without delay through Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
In the context of Russia’s armed offensive against Ukraine and the closure of Belarusian airspace, any trips to Belarus… are not recommended, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The French media has not yet explained the reasons for such a call.
Recall that on February 10, Poland, in response to the aggressive steps of the Lukashists, closed the penultimate operating checkpoint on the border with Belarus.
