Circulation is the largest number of banknotes with a face value of 500 hryvnias and coins with a face value of 1 hryvnia.
On July 1, there were 859.9 billion UAH – 37.5 billion or 4.6% more than the beginning of the year, on July 1. The greatest growth was shown by banknotes with a face value of 1,000 UAH and 10 UAH coins. It was reported by the NBU Press Service on Monday, July 21.
If the quarter of the year is characterized by the seizure of cash from circulation, then in the quarter of II the demand for cash is resurrected.
Currently, there are 2.6 billion banknotes covering 851.2 billion hryvnias, as well as 15 billion coins (without memorable and investment) for 8.5 billion hryvnias.
There are 63 banknotes and 189 payments and current coins per living in Ukraine (until January 1, 2025 – 63 and 186 pcs, respectively).
Among the banknotes, the most in the circulation of banknotes with a face value of 500 hryvnias, at least one face value of 50 hryvnias (27.3% and 4.4% of the total amount of circulation).
As for coins, now in the circulation of cash, exchange and revolutionary coins. There are four denominations – 1, 2, 5 and 10 hryvnias. Of these, the most in the circulation of coins with a face value of 1 hryvnia, the least – with a face value of 10 hryvnias (4.4% and 2% of the total value in the circulation, respectively).
There are two denominations of exchange coins – 10 and 50 kopecks (27.5% and 9.1% of the total in circulation, respectively). If the role of coins with a face of 10 cents in cash calculations for goods and services gradually decreases, then stable demand is maintained for coins with a face value of 50 kopecks, especially from the trading field.

The dynamics of the volume of banknotes and coins in circulation indicates that the largest growth rate for the first half of 2025 is in a denomination of 1,000 hryvnias and coins of 10 hryvnias. Their part in the total cost in circulation grew 2.2% and 0.2%, respectively.
