A brain implant to repair brain damage from head trauma

It is difficult to concentrate, remember, make decisions… Even several years after a medium and severe head injury, some “invisible” disorders can complicate the personal and professional life of patients or even threaten their autonomy. Until now, there was no effective solution to restore the lost or impaired cognitive functions of these patients. The new brain implant raises hope.

The work was conducted at Stanford Medicine and published in early December Nature medicine , were conducted on five patients aged 22 to 60 years who suffered from persistent cognitive impairment and were still present more than two years after head injury. They were implanted with a deep brain stimulation device after neurosurgery.
