Celebrating more than two decades of release, remember 5 striking expansions that took place in the “The Sims” franchise franchise
Celebrating 25 years of history, The Sims has consolidated itself as one of the most innovative franchises in the world of games, always bringing new forms of interaction to their fans. Launched in 2000 by Maxis, the game created a universe where players could shape the lives of their Sims, controlling from housing to relationships and careers.
Over more than two decades, the franchise has constantly reinvented itself, with expansion packages that not only expanded the experience, but also enriched gameplay, allowing for fans of the game to explore new dynamics, scenarios and mechanics more immersively.
To celebrate this successful trajectory, Recreio has prepared a selection of 5 expansions that have become mark of the franchise over the years.
1. The Sims 2 – Stations
The arrival of stations at ‘The Sims 2: Seasons’ was a milestone in the franchise. Not only did the weather become a fundamental part of the gameplay, but developers introduced surprising details such as accumulated snow and rain dripping through the tiles of the houses.
In addition, Seasons presented the Plantsims, a new “species” of yes with totally different needs, living only with love, water and sunlight. Gardening has also become one of the central activities, allowing players to grow their own products, which allows the depth of the life system in the game.
2. The Sims 3 – Generations

Focused on the different phases of life, ‘The Sims 3: Generations’ brought a more familiar touch to the series, introducing each generation of Sims with their own activities and interactions, from ballet to children to theater clubs for teenagers.
The package also introduced new mechanics, such as boarding schools, which allowed Sims to specialize in areas such as sports or arts. In addition, the return of memories, absent from The Sims 2, brought a new degree of immersion.
3. The Sims 2 – Nightlife

This package was responsible for bringing cars to the universe of The Sims 2, giving an extra realism to the game. The new interactions with vehicles, such as opening doors and revealing, made the gameplay more dynamic, without the teleports seen at The Sims 3.
In addition, ‘nightlife’ has introduced a urban center full of new entertainment options such as bowling, karaoke and dance, as well as a renewed dating mechanics.
4. The Sims 4 – Life Campestre

Launched to The Sims 4, ‘Cottage Living’ brought rural life back, allowing Sims to raise and take care of animals such as cows, chickens and llamas. The expansion also brought the picturesque Henford-On-Bagley neighborhood, with markets, pubs and forests to explore.
To complete the experience, Sims were able to interact with local wildlife, such as rabbits and foxes, which could even help with homework, such as taking care of the garden, making the field more attractive to players.
5. The Sims – Superrestrela

‘The Sims: Superstar’ was one of the most loved expansions by those who dreamed of bringing their Sims to the star. With new careers as an actor, singer and model, players could accompany their Sims on the way to fame.
The package also first brought the possibility of following the SIM to the workplace, with activities such as movie recordings, photo essays and even autograph sessions. The expansion had a lasting impact on the franchise, bringing a greater approach to the concept of success and fame.
