Passionate about tennis, the Princess of Wales appears in the stands of the Wimbledon tournament every year and traditionally presents the trophies to the major winners during the final. But will she attend the event while undergoing cancer treatment?
After her high-profile appearance at the Trooping The Color parade on June 15, will Kate Middleton attend Wimbledon? The sponsor of the event, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, goes to the stands to watch the matches or to the field each year to present the trophies to the big winners of the men’s and women’s finals.
And while the Princess of Wales has significantly reduced her public appearances since announcing her cancer last March, tournament organizers hope to be able to count on her presence this year. All England club chairman Debbie Jeavons said Telegraph: wanting to give Kate Middleton “as much flexibility as possible” about a possible visit. The choice of the person presenting the trophies may not be made until the morning of the final, which will take place on Sunday July 13.
“We hope that the Princess of Wales will be able to present the trophies as a patron of the club, but her health and recovery is a priority,” said the president of the club and added: – this should be considered at the last minute if necessary. We remain flexible.”
Tennis enthusiast and player
The Princess of Wales is a big fan of sports, especially tennis. “I watched Wimbledon, it was a big part of my childhood. It’s such an important part of the English summer,” he told the BBC in 2017. Since marrying Prince William in April 2011, she has barely missed an edition of the tournament. King Charles III’s daughter-in-law was forced to opt out in July 2013 after being “very pregnant” with Prince George on orders from her doctors.
And Prince William’s wife seems to have passed on her passion for tennis to her three children, George, Charlotte and Louis. The two captains have already attended several matches, most notably during the 2023 tournament. His passion led him to inherit the title of club patron in 2016, previously held by Queen Elizabeth II.
