The first of the eleven planned frigates will be built in 2029, and its commission will be planned for 2030.
Japan has signed an Australian agreement for Australia’s 10 billion dollars ($ 6.5 billion) for providing warships. This is Japan’s biggest defense deal from the cancellation of exporting weapons in 2014. Reuters reported it on Tuesday, July 5.
According to the agreement, the company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will set up three Mogami Multi-Purpose Mogami Multi-target for Naval Australian forces since 2029. Eight more ships should be built in Australia.
Frigates are designed to fight submarines, attacking surface targets and air defense. High -Tech Mogami class ships will require only 90 crew members – half as much as the former Anzac class frigates.
Australia plans to use ships to protect the strategic important trade routes and northern approaches to the Indian and Pacific oceans, where China’s military presence is growing.
The complete removal of the mogami class frigates is about 5500 tons, the length of the case is 132.5 meters, the width is 16.3 meters. The ships are equipped with a combined diesel-gas turbine power plant, thanks to which the ship will generate a speed of more than 30 knots.
The range of Mogami swimming increased to 10 thousand naval miles. The vertical start system is designed for 32 anti -ships or anti -Aircraft missile. A multi -purpose helicopter can also be based on the board, as well as different underwater vehicles.
The agreement is also a step by Japan to strengthen cooperation of defense in other countries other than the United States to prevent China.
This contract was partially paying for Japan’s failure in 2016, when Australia prefers the French submarine project instead of the afternoon. In 2023, Kanberra canceled that project in favor of the construction of atom submarines as part of the Aukus Pact in the USA and Great Britain.
The first three frigates of Japanese production are the largest Australian Navy purchase from the creation of Aukus. The remaining eight ships are expected to build Austal in Western Australia.
The final contract signing is expected at the beginning of next year – as negotiations continue to cost, maintain and transfer production.
It has been noted that the sharing of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries rose 5.7% in Tokyo, while Austal – by 7.94%, amid news about the stable volume of future orders.
Earlier, Great Britain and Australia signed a strengthening agreement over the next 50 years of cooperation in the construction of nuclear submarines.
