At a press conference, actors from “Turma da Mônica Jovem: Reflexos do Medo” revealed how hate affected the cast during recording; find it out!
At the press conference for “Turma da Mônica Jovem: Reflexos do Medo,” held last Monday, the 15th, the cast was asked about how they managed to deal with the pressure of playing characters known for years in comics and films, also commenting about the hate they faced when they were confirmed as the new interpreters of the characters in Mauricio de Sousa.
The first comment on the subject was Sophia Valverdewhere she said that, as much as there was fear in giving life to the young version of Mônica, she felt happy in winning the role.
It was a lot of pressure because Mônica already has more than 60 years of history”, Sophia began explaining. “I always followed Mônica a lot and I never imagined being Mônica. When I took the test, I was already a little scared, but when I passed I was very happy. Of course it was a big responsibility, because there are a lot of people who love it. I grew up, influenced by my mother, with Turma da Mônica comic books. So, it was pressure, but it was a lot of happiness to be playing such an important role for so many people.”
In another moment, Xande ValoisCebola, also said that the pressure was responsible for uniting the cast, and shielding them from criticism that would not strengthen them.
I think everything happens because it has to happen. It was a pressure that was very good for bringing us together, for us to really be able to isolate ourselves from everything. [A pressão] generated great results and, in my opinion, ended up being a little similar to the challenges of our characters”, he added.
In addition to the pressure, the actors also became the target of hate on the internet, as many used social media to belittle the new cast while questioning why the first performers of the flesh-and-blood version of Turminha (Giulia Benite, Kevin Vechiatto, Laura Rauseo It is Gabriel Moreira), had been changed with the arrival of the live-action derived from the Turma da Mônica Jovem universe.
Please note: The audiovisual executive producer of Mauricio de Sousa Produções, Marcos Saraivarevealed in an interview with Folha de São Paulo last year, that the cast was changed due to a series of factors, two of which were the age of the characters and the rights to adapt the work, since Turma da Mônica e a Turma da Mônica Jovem are different properties.
About this, Sofia She was positive when stating that, with the help of her colleagues and the entire production team involved in creating the film, she was able to gain the confidence to bring the character to life.
Of course we may have received hate, but it’s a new cast, it’s a different story, I’m sure you’ll like it a lot. But it was a big responsibility. Still, with the help of the production, the direction, and my friends in the cast, I certainly managed to have more confidence”, added Sophia.
The executive director of Mauricio de Sousa Produções and inspiration for the creation of Dona da Rua, Monica Spada e Sousa, was also present at the press conference and took advantage of the moment to come to the actress’ defense. “When I watched Mônica (Sophia Valverde) for the first time, I identified a lot there, I went back in time and it is perfect.”
More than that, Bianca Paiva, said that he tried to protect his colleagues from the hate they suffered in order to not bring negative energy to the set. “To be honest, I didn’t let them read the comments much. I was like: ‘guys, let’s turn off our cell phones, there’s no need for this, let’s focus on ourselves here, let’s think about what we believe in and what we are developing with so much love and with so many people behind it'”, he said. Bianca.
The Magali interpreter’s statement was reinforced by Theo Solomonthe actor responsible for Cascão, as he highlighted how the mutual support between everyone was what made the project work, despite the malicious comments and intimidation that can arise when giving life to figures who are part of Brazil’s history.
She [Bianca] it helped us a lot. Everyone was helping each other, everyone was hugging each other, we lifted each other up, we said good things to each other, we laughed a lot, we went out too, and I think we managed to take some of that pressure away which is playing these iconic characters. We took some of that pressure off by helping each other as a real group, so I think we really are a group, and you’ll see it on screen.”
Sofia told how negative messages were used as fuel during recording so that they could always deliver the best result in the end.
When we read something [sobre hate], I think it made us have more strength and more desire to give more in the scenes. So you will see us at our best in this film.”
Finally, Carol RobertoMilena, recalled a behind-the-scenes experience to highlight that the willpower of everyone involved was responsible for transforming them into the new Class.
I think there was this pressure and there was the desire to make it work as a group. We all wanted the project to work. The trainers told us: ‘you’re a group that has known each other for a long time, so you need to make people believe it’, so it needs to be very real. Everyone was 100% into the project to make it work, she said. “So the pressure worked and we became the group. Now we don’t really separate ourselves!”, she concluded.
