Who is Kiri’s father?

In the first scenes of ‘Avatar: O Caminho da Água’, a feature film that opened in December, the public is updated on what happened in the lives of Jake Sully and Neytiri since the events seen in ‘Avatar’ (2009), since the last 13 years on Pandora yielded the couple a beautiful family formed by three biological children and two adopted ones, all of them with totally different personalities.

The eldest among them is Neteyam who acts as the role model among the brothers. Soon after comes the impulsive Lo’ak and the youngest of the family, the innocent Tuk. Among the adoptees is Spider, the fearless human boy who is the son of Colonel Quaritch, the main villain of the story. And finally, Kiri, the mystical daughter of Dr. Grace Augustine.

The plot, which revolves around family relationships and the challenges and threats that arise to harm them, presents, amid twists and turns, great mysteries regarding the origins of children. Among these unresolved questions, ranging from her physical characteristics to who her true ancestors are, is the question: Who is Kiri’s real father?

The truth is that the answer is not included in the film, but that did not stop internet users from creating theories based on the clues left by director James Cameron within the plot. Thinking about it, we will explain the two main theses below!

Before the revelation of how Kiri was born and the connection that the young woman has with the nature of the alien planet, part of the public believed that Dr. Norm Spellman, character from Joel David Moorecould be Kiri’s father.

That’s because, the scientist who was willing to know everything about Pandora and acquire all the knowledge that Grace could provide him about the place, was next to the specialist of the Na’vi universe most of the time, which could suggest that they could having lived a secret romance.

Despite having gained strength before the film’s premiere, this possibility of interpretation seems to have been advanced by Cameron, since in one of the scenes of ‘The Way of Water’ the story is quickly discarded, appearing as a joke while Kiri, Lo’ ak and Spider go to Norm’s lab to visit Grace’s avatar.

Eywa brought Kiri to life?

In ‘The Way of Water’ it is explained that Kiri was born after Grace’s passing. In the first film, the scientist was shot by Quaritch and was on the brink of death when she was taken to the sacred site known as the Tree of Souls, where the Na’vi attempted to transfer Dr. Augustine for her avatar.

However, the ritual was not completed and Grace died stating that she was now with Eywa, the goddess of Na’vi lore, and had finally found peace. THE avatar then empty of dr. Augustine delivered the child despite having no conscience.

It is at this moment that the new theory fits, since there is the possibility that the ritual produced another result: generating a life. Thus, Kiri would be a new version of Grace, which would explain why the actress Sigourney Weaver is responsible for giving life to the two characters.

In addition, it would also justify Kiri’s connection with the elements of Pandora, since she is able to remain underwater without breathing for much longer than her brothers and even communicate with the creatures of the place without any effort, which which could be a result of his connection with the deity.
