As of June of this year, the average income of a Peruvian in Urban area reached S / 1525. For this amount, the citizen must redistribute his income to finance their food and other needs such as transportation, education and clothing; however, inflation affects their spending. With the money they receive, they cannot buy the same things as a year ago.

Given this, people should look for where to buy different items at the suggested price, the lower the better. But where do buyers find the highest prices?

While most prefer to buy their groceries from markets where prices can be lower, there is also a good percentage of people who consider the nearest grocery store as their main source of getting what they need.

However, the rise in prices has also had a major impact on the prices of the products offered, and this was revealed in a study prepared by Ipsos Peru entitled “The Peruvian consumer in inflation. According to the results, 52% of Peruvians warned of an increase in what warehouses supply.

“Unlike supermarkets, which can haggle, vintners buy not only from the producer, but also from markets and further increase prices,” explains Javier Alvarez, senior director of trends at Ipsops Management.

In a purchasing channel comparison, wineries rank first in terms of availability more expensive pricesfollows supermarkets with 28% and then neighborhood markets. Other places where people buy prepared foods and even medicines are also included in the study.

For example, 15% of people believe that the rise in prices was due to restaurants, and 14% to pharmacy chains.

Who is responsible for rising prices?

And while there are several factors that drive prices up, such as inflation Worldwar and rising prices for raw materials and logistics, for the population, the main responsibility lies with the government, followed by a pandemic, and in third place are companies that will seek to take advantage of the situation.

“They think prices shouldn’t be so high. There is a negative perception that companies are taking advantage of this,” Alvarez said.
