The discovery of a deposit in the Jingchuan region will help provide China with uranium resources, experts say.
A massive uranium deposit has been discovered in northwest China in the Jinchuan Ordos basin. Xinhua reported this yesterday in connection with the Geological Survey Administration, which reports to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the People’s Republic of China.
“This discovery is the first ultra-large uranium deposit in the world found in a region dominated by aeolian sandstone. Such landforms, in addition to covering 200 thousand square kilometers in the Ordos Basin, are also common in other China’s oil areas, such as the Tarim, Junggar and Songliao basins”, the message said.
Experts believe that the discovery of a uranium deposit in the Jingchuan region will open up new opportunities for the exploration of this raw material in China and help provide the country with uranium resources.
It was previously known that Russia will give China a uranium mine in Kazakhstan. Uranium reserves in Kazakhstan, which does not yet have its own nuclear power plant, are about 15% of all world reserves and second only to those of Australia.
