One of the problems on the railway is the reduction in the average speed of the section of trains to 35 km / h – the lowest figure since 1991.

Russian Railways recorded a decrease in cargo transportation for the third year, which is related to the sanctions against Russia. This was reported by the Moscow Times.

In November, the load on the Russian Railways network decreased by 5.8% year-on-year, to 95.6 million tons, and the cumulative total for the 10 months decreased by 4.4%.

Russian railways are now experiencing the “deepest failure” in the last 16 years “since the crisis of 2008-09.” Of the 15 “items” that the company tracks in its statistics, 11 are in the red. Transportation of the main cargo of Russian Railways, coal, which makes up almost a third of all transportation, decreased by 6.2%. This came after coal miners faced a slump in exports and were forced to cut production to the lowest level since the 2020 pandemic.

At the same time, the load of ferrous metals decreased by 9.9%. Log transportation, which was down 14.2% in 2023, is down another 1.7%. Construction cargo loading decreased by 14.4%, cement – by 4.7%, grain – by 3.3%, chemical cargo – by 2.9%, oil and petroleum products – by 1.1%.

Another problem on the railway is the decrease in the average sectional speed of trains – in the first half of the year it fell to a minimum of 12 years, 36.5 km / h, and sometimes dropped below 35 km / h – this is the lowest figure since 1991.

Let’s remember that the media earlier wrote that the growth of the Russian economy during the war passed its peak and began to decline.
