The tightening of restrictions comes after TSMC reported that it discovered its chip in Huawei’s PHI processor.
Following the discovery by American authorities of TSMC chips in Huawei technologies, the United States introduced new export restrictions for the Taiwanese company, tightening control over the supply of semiconductors to China. It was reported by Reuters.
The corresponding restriction was introduced after TSMC reported that it discovered its chip in the Huawei PHI processor. After conducting its own investigation, the company stopped supplies to two companies suspected of transferring the chips.
However, the United States considers these restrictions insufficient. The new ban covers many more companies and allows the United States to examine whether the companies are resupplying chips to Huawei.
It is learned that TSMC has already informed its Chinese customers that the company has suspended the delivery of the chips.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs commented that TSMC regularly discusses export control issues with the government and has made it clear that it will comply with local and international regulations.
TSMC previously reported plans to build a third plant in the US state of Arizona. It was noted that the chips to be produced at the plant are critical for new technologies, including artificial intelligence and military needs.
Last year, it was reported that the EU planned to invest more than 100 billion euros in chip production on its territory.
