Compared to May, the volume of transit through Ukraine in June dropped another 37%, and compared to June last year, almost three times.
According to the results of June, the volume of gas transit through the Ukrainian GTS has reached a historic low since 1991 and reached only 1.25 billion cubic meters. This was reported by the press service of the GTS Operator of Ukraine on Friday, July 1.

“Compared to May 2022, the volume of transit in Ukraine decreased by 37%, and compared to June last year, transit decreased by almost three times. Gazprom used only 38% of the booked capacity ( 3.29 billion cubic meters) under a long -term contract, ” – said the message.
Gazprom does not continue to use reserved and paid capacity at the Sudzha entry point, which is 77.2 million cubic meters per day.
“The Russian monopolist has not taken advantage of the possibility of transferring the capacities of GIS Sokhranovka and does not participate in auctions for booking capacities,” the press service added.
It is indicated that, together with the restriction on transit through the Nord Stream gas pipeline, this leads to a “drainage” of the EU gas market and rising prices. In particular, since the beginning of June, gas prices in Europe have risen by almost 42%.
Recall that Naftogaz intends to file an arbitration claim against Gazprom in July for failure to comply with the “pump or pay” condition under the gas transit contract.
