Producers explain this dynamics by a sharp increase in the supply of these melons in the market.
Since the beginning of the week, prices for watermelons in Ukraine have dropped by a third. EastFruit reported this on Wednesday, August 7.
Currently, prices for watermelons in the domestic market have dropped to 3-8 UAH/kg (0.07-0.19 USD/kg), which is, on average, 30% cheaper than at the end of last week.
Producers explain this dynamics by a sharp increase in the supply of these melons in the market. According to farmers, the situation is further aggravated by the fact that the bulk of the supply consists of large caliber products, for which demand is relatively weak.
Wholesale companies and retail chains reduce purchases of such watermelons to a minimum, citing very low retail sales rates.
Improved weather conditions in almost the entire territory of Ukraine allowed watermelon producers to continue active harvesting, leading to an increase in market supply.
Indicated. that watermelons in Ukraine cost, on average, 60% cheaper than at the beginning of August 2023.
Earlier it was reported that in Kherson, in the central market, a watermelon grew on the asphalt. A video appeared on the Internet.
As is known, before the full invasion of Russia, the Kherson region grew 35-40% of the total melon crops in Ukraine.
