The DTEK VDE company is conducting in-depth ornithological research on the territory of the future wind field of the Poltava Wind Power Plant (WPP) to assess the potential impact of the station’s operation on birds and bats. This was reported by the company’s press service.
It was noted that the first stage of the study, conducted at the end of 2023, indicates the absence of critical factors affecting the construction of the Poltava wind farm.
The corresponding conclusions were made after the analysis of retrospective scientific data, migration routes of birds and bats, the territory of the Emerald Network and the natural fund of the reserve, as well as after conducting several field trips.
Currently, the second phase of research is ongoing, covering the spring migration of birds, their nesting, hatching of chicks, as well as the fall migration. The detailed research process takes a year to cover the entire annual life cycle of the birds.
To analyze and draw conclusions, the recommendations of the Scottish Natural Heritage Trust and other international documents will be considered. If necessary, experts will provide recommendations on measures to mitigate the possible impact on the state of avifauna and bats, as well as monitoring biodiversity during the operation of the wind farm.
“DTEK Renewables carries out all procedures required by law for the construction of green energy facilities according to established principles. The Globin community can be confident in our conscious approach as a company responsible for environment, in the implementation of our environmental protection projects,” said the deputy. General Director of DTEK Renewables Oleg Solovey.
As is known, DTEK energy holding plans to build a Poltava wind power plant with a capacity of 650 MW. The company deliberately moved to this region because it lacked energy. Electricity from the wind farm will fuel faster production development in Poltava and adjacent regions, and will also increase capacity in the energy system.
Let’s remember that at the height of the war, DTEK built the Tiligul wind power plant in the Nikolaev region with a capacity of 114 MW, 100 km from the combat zone. It is the first wind farm in the world built during the war.
