The decision to leave the Istanbul Grain Initiative with history and build its own alternative sea corridor turned out to be strategically correct.
Six ports of Ukraine handled 52.7 million tons of cargo in the first half of 2024, and for the same period in 2023 this figure reached 31.3 million tons. This was announced by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Daniil Getmantsev.
It is reported that more than 63.5% of cargoes are agricultural products, more than 36% are products of other industries, including mining and metallurgical complex.
“In the first half of 2023, we were limited by the Istanbul Grain Initiative, which allowed us to deliver only agricultural products from three Black Sea ports, which the Russians gradually slowed down from the beginning of 2023 (after in the first quarter they managed to export 10.4 million tons of agricultural products in the second quarter – 5.7 million tons, and in July its sales stopped (0.26 million tons),” Getmantsev recalled.
The rest, as the head of the committee said, was obtained thanks to the Danube corridor, which did not fully meet the needs of Ukraine, although it worked at a record load.
“The decision to leave the Istanbul Grain Initiative in history and build our own alternative sea corridor was strategically correct, now we can send products of any ordered range, ships can move freely and continuously , without the embarrassment of double departure and obtaining permits,” added Getmantsev.
Earlier it was reported that the indicators of the Ukrainian sea corridor exceeded the results of the grain agreement, which was terminated after the demarche of Russia.
