Total electricity consumption across the country reached 261 billion kWh, according to BDEW.
A new six-month record for electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) – wind, sunlight, biomass and water – has been set in Germany. In particular, in the first half of this year, the share of electricity generation from renewable energy sources reached 58%. This was reported by dpa in connection with the assessment of the Center for Research on Solar Energy and Hydrogen of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the Federal Association of Energy and Water Utilities (BDEW) on Monday, July 1.

In the first half of 2023, this number is 52%. Total electricity consumption in the country reached 261 billion kWh, down 0.3 percent year-on-year.
In the first six months of 2024, electricity from renewable energy sources in Germany will cover more than half of monthly demand, BDEW said, and since April the monthly share has reached 59%.
“PV installations in particular generated more electricity than a year earlier – 37% – thanks in large part to record growth in 2023,” the center added.
Of the total 58% of electricity produced from renewable energy sources, 24% comes from wind energy, 14% from photovoltaic systems, 9% from biomass, 5% from offshore wind energy and 1% from municipal waste energy. .
