The National Assembly adopted a decision that initiated a phased reduction in Russian oil imports from the beginning of 2024.
A complete ban on the import of Russian oil began in Bulgaria on Friday, March 1. Before this, on January 1, Bulgaria banned the export of products made of Russian raw materials. This was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES.
The reason for the ban is Russia’s war against Ukraine. The EU has imposed an embargo on Russian oil to cut the Kremlin’s war income.
Bulgaria asked for a delay and Brussels agreed. However, since mid-2023, a debate has raged in parliament, with some parties strongly in favor of a complete ban on Russian oil.
Subsequently, a decision was made by the National Assembly, which initiated a phased reduction in Russian oil imports from the beginning of 2024.
Deputy Delyan Dobrev said that the refinery Lukoil-Neftekhim has not imported Russian oil since the beginning of 2024, and it has not affected the Bulgarian economy in any way.
Earlier, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev announced new military aid to Ukraine.
