Poland will maintain a ban on Ukrainian grain imports until the European Union develops new rules.
Poland should maintain the embargo on the import of Ukrainian grain while developing new rules at the European Union level. About that stated Poland’s Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Sekierski at TVP Info.
“We must maintain the embargo until we agree on the conditions that will replace it. I believe that a good solution is to introduce transport licensing while simultaneously using transit routes outside of Poland,” he says.
According to the minister, Poland wants to help Ukraine, but it requires standards on quotas and the transition period.
“These are negotiations not only between Poland and Ukraine, but also with the participation of the EU,” Sekierski added.
The minister believes that the export of Ukrainian grain should take a different route than European or Polish. “Since there is always a certain risk, even in transit, part of the grain and other agricultural products remain in Poland,” he explained.
Let’s recall that in the spring of 2023, Poland, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and Slovakia introduced a ban on the import of Ukrainian grain. This is due to the fact that imports greatly influence prices in the domestic markets of states. Later, this decision was introduced at the level of the European Commission. It is valid until September 15.
After this, it is expected that the import ban will be completely lifted. But Poland, Hungary and Slovakia decided to continue such measures unilaterally.
