After 2033, power unit No. 1 of the Volga NPP will be the first unit in Ukraine with a capacity of 1000 MW, which will operate for 50 years.
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate authorized the operation of power unit No. 1 of the Pivdennoukrainsk Nuclear Power Plant until December 2, 2033. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy on Wednesday, December 6.
In the presence of the Minister of Energy German Galushchenko, the acting chairman of the State Nuclear Research Institute Oleg Korikov gave the relevant permits to the President of Energoatom, Petr Kotin.
The minister noted that after the completion of the next 10 years of operation, the power unit No. 1 of the Volga nuclear power plant will be the first unit in Ukraine with a capacity of 1000 MW, operating for 50 years.
The President of Energoatom emphasized that when deciding to renew the license, the regulator is guided by compliance with nuclear and radiation safety standards during the operation of the power unit.
The power unit No. 1 of the Pivdennoukrainsk NPP was put into operation in 1982. The power unit received a license from the State Nuclear Regulatory Authority for the right to long-term operation in 2013.
We would like to remind you that on the night of December 2, the eighth blackout occurred at the Zaporozhye NPP, which resulted in a threat to radiation safety. Subsequently, power engineers resumed operation of one of the high-voltage lines connecting Zaporizhia NPP to the Ukrainian energy system. At the end of November, the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant spent the entire day on the brink of another blackout.
