The NBU conducted a survey of businesses about their expectations from business activity in the near future.
Ukrainian business worsened the business activity expectations index. Now it is below the neutral level (50 points). This is stated in the monthly survey of enterprises of the National Bank of Ukraine.
From 50.1 points in September, expectations worsened to 49.6 points in October.
Business expectations of the business are predictably influenced by:
-
significant security risks,
-
destruction of the production capacities of individual enterprises,
-
exporters’ logistics restrictions,
-
reducing the need for investment,
-
fuel price hike again,
-
lack of trained personnel.
Construction companies, after five consecutive months of optimistic assessments, began to expect a slowdown in their performance results in October.
Among the negative factors:
-
lack of qualified personnel,
-
expectations for a reduction in construction volume,
-
pessimistic assessments about the availability of contractors,
-
expectations of further reductions in the total number of employees.
For the second month, industrial enterprises do not expect changes in their operating results, despite the optimization of production/logistics chains and the weakening of inflation.
Among the negative factors is the increased expectation for a reduction in the total number of employees.
Service sector businesses negatively assessed their performance results in October. Pessimistic factors include negative expectations for the volume of new orders and pessimism about the total number of employees.
Trade enterprises remain the most optimistic among other sectors of the economy, positively assessing their business activity for the eighth month in a row thanks to established domestic demand in conditions of stable functioning of the system of energy and adequate supply of goods.
The NBU conducted a monthly survey from October 5 to October 24, 2023 among 505 businesses.
As you know, pre-war taxes were returned to Ukraine in July. President Vladimir Zelensky signed a bill abolishing the 2% single tax and partially lifting the moratorium on business inspections.
