Wine is one of the oldest drinks in the world and an important complement to a good dinner.
What you need to know to get maximum pleasure from the nectar of the gods.
Some people prefer white, some prefer red. Semi-sweet or dry – it’s all just a matter of taste. However, there are some general rules and traditions that will help you combine foods and drinks in a way that complements and reflects each other’s tastes.
Differences in making white and red wine
Many people think that white wine is made from light grape varieties, and red wine from dark. In fact, it is the skin that gives the wine its color, and white wine can also be made from dark grape varieties.
When making white wine, the juice is pressed from the grapes and allowed to settle. Next, wine yeast is added to it for fermentation. After fermentation, almost no sugar remains in the grapes, so the wine becomes “young dry”, bottled in specially prepared bottles.
Red wine gets its vibrant color from the skins of red grapes. And in order for the bouquet to be rich, the red wine, which begins to ferment, must be stirred all the time. And only after achieving the desired color of the wort, it is filtered, the drink is sent to fermentation in tanks, from where, after filtering, it enters the bottling shop.
The La Cantina brand from one of the most famous Ukrainian producers of alcoholic beverages, ABK Dnepr, offers red and white wines made using classical technologies. The company’s portfolio includes four types of wine – dry white, semi-sweet white, dry red and semi-sweet red.
Dry white – Vino Secco Bianco – made from Aligote and Chardonnay varieties, has a light aroma of honey, mild taste of green apple and color of straw. Semi-sweet – Vino Dolce Bianco – made from Chardonnay grapes, with a golden color and a fruity bouquet of peach and mango. La Cantina semi-sweet wines contain naturally concentrated grape juice, in which the natural sugar remains.
The basis for dry red wine – Vino Secco Rosse – is Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The drink has a ruby hue and tastes of red berries. Vino Dolce Rosse is semi-sweet, made from the Merlot variety, with a rich burgundy color and aroma with notes of currant and plum.

How and what to serve
Wine and food are inseparable friends, and if properly matched with each other, they can fully reveal their taste characteristics.
One of the most famous and ancient principles of food and wine pairing is color. For example, dry white wine is most often suitable for white fish, seafood, white meat and vegetables, and dry red wine for red meat dishes – steaks, ribs, game dishes, jamon and smoked meats.
Semi-sweet wines can also be combined with the main course, but traditionally they are served with cheese, sausage, as well as light desserts, fruits and berries.

An important rule is the temperature of the wine when serving. Red is served chilled at 15-16 degrees, white – up to 10-12 degrees. Semi-sweet wines can be 1-2 degrees warmer. It is advisable to drink wine from glasses with curved edges, slightly less than half full, and hold them exclusively by the stem.
Interesting knowledge
Moderate alcohol consumption can reduce the risk of stroke, heart attack and cardiovascular disease by 25-40%. Red wine also helps prevent Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Oenology is the science of wine and winemaking. And enotherapy is a method of treating various diseases and promoting health with the help of specially selected wines. Since ancient times, physicians have used alcohol for treatment, and in 1994, French scientists introduced this concept as a branch of medicine.
Wine contains essential amino acids, vitamins and microelements. And thanks to the presence of polyphenols, alcohol face masks are used in anti-aging beauty therapy.
A relatively safe dose of alcohol is considered to be one glass (150 ml) for women and two for men.
