The mayor of Piura, Gabriel Madrid, announced that there will be a working meeting with the Minister of Defense on Tuesday, where he is expected to present announcements and agreements before announced a strike in the region, scheduled for April 18 next year.
“All the mayors of the Piura region and the governor believe that the demands of civil society are demands for the just protection of the people. But whether or not to go on strike depends largely on the Defense Minister’s approach to bringing Piurana to the population,” he said on the RPP’s Economy for All program.
Gabriel Madrid He explained that the strike was not announced by the mayors, but by civil society, and that the position of his commune had already been brought to the attention of Defense Department. In addition, he confirmed that eight provincial mayors will attend a meeting with a representative of the executive branch.
“It’s not that the mayors went on strike, civil society did it. Our position, and what we sent to the Secretary of Defense, is that we need a close relationship with the government and a working group to start solving the problems of the structures. in the Piura region, such as reservoirs in the highlands, we need a hospital of high complexity,” he added.
Madrid rejected the economy minister’s criticism, saying that the region does not know how to spend its budget. In this regard, he indicated that the municipality he heads complies with the rules for the proper use of public money.
“Basically, there is an initial initial budget and 100% has already been spent, then we introduced a second budget, we collected ordinary resources directly collected for emergency relief. I can say with full confidence that the municipality of Piura is leading in all performance ratings at the national level, so we are talking face to face (with the Minister of Economy) and telling him where we are wrong,” he said.
They live in the middle of the flood for a month
Residents of the San Antonio area, located in the La Unión (Piura) district, condemned the lack of support from the central and regional government in removing accumulated water from the streets and their homes due to heavy rains in Peru.
According to what the residents told the RPP news, for more than a month they have been living with puddles formed due to rains. But not only that, the waters are polluted due to the collapse of the drain.
Neighbors requested motor pumps from the authorities to remove stagnant water in their homes. “(Regarding) the motor pump, we already made an inquiry (to the authorities) a month ago, when it started to rain. Three days passed, and the rest of the help did not arrive. Equipment is needed here, because there is a lot of water, and it will no longer be possible to pump it out with simple motor pumps. We want the equipment to excavate and open the sewers,” said one of the affected neighbors.
