In 2022, Peru reached a record in agricultural export according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) in the amount of 10,421 million US dollars.
Midagri points out that agricultural sector this represents 16% of total exports in 2022, which is the largest contribution by sector, but what are the main products we ship to the world?
The most important agricultural products in the country are blueberries, grapes, coffee, avocados and asparagus, which account for about 50% of agricultural exports.
Peru is currently considered world’s first exporter blueberries, grapes and quinoa, and is the world’s second largest supplier of asparagus, avocados and artichokes.
In the case of blueberries, it can be seen that supplies increased by 13.4% last year; while in grapes, exports were 13.7% higher; and coffee shipments increased by 61.4%.
markets
These products that are sent abroad reach more than 130 markets, being the United States, the Netherlands and Spain in charge.
Last year alone, about $3.372 million was sent to the United States for agricultural exports.
In addition, Peru currently has 22 free trade agreements current. These trade agreements cover 87% of all agricultural exports.
Despite this, Midagri specialist Cesar Romero notes that it is necessary to diversify export markets, “especially in the Asian region, where prices for agricultural products are higher.”
In addition, it indicates that, in the absence of restrictions and significant climatic impacts, it is assumed that agricultural export Peru could reach US$12 billion in 2025.
It should be noted that, according to Midagri, this year agricultural exports may exceed 11 billion US dollars.
For his part, Mincetur foreign trade specialist Adder Aylon points out that in 2023, under the optimistic scenario, agricultural exports will grow by 5%, “if we take advantage of export windows, knowing that climatic factor This applies to other countries as well.”
