EU countries imported 121 million tons of LNG in 2022, up 60% compared to 2021.
Europe last year increased imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by 60%, to 121 million tons. This is stated in Shell’s report on the LNG market.
European countries, including the UK, imported 121 million tons of LNG in 2022, up 60% from 2021, allowing them to cope with a sharp drop in Russian pipeline gas imports.
The largest LNG importing countries after the European market in 2022 are Japan, China and South Korea.
Overall, the volume of global LNG trade in 2022 will reach 397 million tons, which is 16 million tons more than in 2021. Australia, Qatar and the USA are the main exporters of LNG in the world. Russia is in fourth place.
According to experts, by 2040 the demand for LNG will reach 650-700 million tons per year.
“More investment in liquefaction projects is needed to avoid the gap between supply and demand that is expected to emerge by the end of the 2020s,” Shell said.
It can be recalled that earlier the national oil company of the emirate of Abu Dhabi ADNOC delivered the first batch of LNG to Germany.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Germany has succeeded in relying on Russian gas. In Germany, two mobile terminals for receiving liquefied gas have already been opened and new ones are expected to open.
