French police fired tear gas on the Champs-Elysées in Paris against fans celebrating the World Cup victories of the French and Moroccan football teams. This was reported by Reuters on December 11.
Thousands of fans were reported to have filled the famous Parisian avenue shortly after the match between Morocco and Portugal, chanting, waving flags and blowing horns in the presence of a large number of law enforcement officers.
They were later joined by fans of France’s victory over England.
They vandalized shops and fought with the police. In addition, a fire broke out on the Avenue de Friedland near the Champs Elysées.
