Armored shields have a ballistic resistance of at least class 4 and can withstand a direct hit by bullets of PS, PP and LPS types from a distance of 10 meters.
The Metivest group of companies announced the development of a new type of protection – armored shields for machine gunners and operators of large-caliber weapons, who must go to the front. This was reported by the press service of Metinvest on Saturday, December 3.
According to the group, the shields are made of sheets of 30MnB5 boron-containing steel, which, after heat treatment, obtains ballistic resistance of at least class 4 and can withstand direct hits of PS, PP and LPS bullets from at a distance of 10 meters.
“Such shields are installed on a swivel rack at the back of a pickup truck, SUV and other passenger or specialized vehicles. The rack, in turn, is mounted on a strong bearing and attached to the frame itself vehicle. This allows the defender to fire with the rotation of the weapon around the axis. At the same time, the armored shield constantly covers the operator from enemy bullets and shrapnel,” said the statement.
Recall that Metinvest previously announced a new method for producing steel for bulletproof vests. So far, the group of companies has sent 150,000 body armor to the front as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s military initiative Steel Front. In addition, Metinvest sent 40 metal modular shelters and 300 field stoves to the front line.
