President of Chile Gabriel Boric, spoke this Wednesday due to the absence of his Peruvian counterpart Pedro Castillo in Mexico. In this sense, he regretted that his impediment to travel was due to “internal disputes”, which caused the meeting of the Pacific Alliance on Friday, November 25, to be suspended.
“I find it unfortunate that internal disputes, which it is not for me to delve into, limit the ability of a sister country in Latin America to participate in important spaces, this is the reason, and we are going to discuss this with President López Obrador, because of which the Pacific Summit was suspended,” Boric told local media upon his arrival in Mexico.
Gabriel Boric believes that the decision to suspend the summit pacific alliance responds to López Obrador’s “sign of solidarity”. In addition, he indicated that he would speak with the President of Mexico to determine how the presidency would be handed over to Pedro Castillo.
“Anyway, I decided to come (to Mexico) because we had a state visit, I think this is a sign of solidarity on the part of President Obrador regarding what is happening in Peru. Tomorrow I will get the details and see how we revive the Pacific Alliance agenda, which was important for Chile,” he explained.
Pacific summit suspended
Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador confirmed on Tuesday that the Pacific Alliance summit, scheduled for this Friday, November 25, has been suspended in the country due to the refusal of the Peruvian Congress to allow the presence of President Pedro Castillo.
“The meeting of the Pacific Alliance was suspended because the President of Peru, who is in charge of the chairmanship (of the organization), was not allowed to participate, he was going to take it here, and we are studying the possibility of an act. in Peru,” Lopez Obrador said at his daily press conference.
The President called it “rude”, “anti-diplomatic” and “indifferent to forms”, which Congress The Peruvian did not give permission to participate in the meeting, which was scheduled to be held this weekend in mexico city and where Peru he was to become president of the Alliance.
