In Kosovo, they confirmed the change in the rules for autonombers, because of which the crisis in Serbia arose, and warned of fines.
Authorities in partially recognized Kosovo intend to impose fines on owners of vehicles with Serbian license plates starting Tuesday. On Sunday, November 21, local police reported.
Law enforcement clarified the new rules for vehicle plates, confirming Pristina’s intention to introduce them from November 22. The police said in a statement that from November 1, in accordance with the government’s decision, they started issuing warnings to owners of vehicles with Serbian registration numbers.
“According to the decision, the issuance of warnings will last until November 21, and after this date, from November 22 to January 21, 2023 inclusive, in relation to all owners of vehicles entering the territory of Republic of Kosovo with illegal license plates. , the Kosovo police will start enforcing penalties in accordance with the current law,” the statement said.
The request for re-registration of Pristina cars was postponed for many years due to the protests of the Kosovo Serbs, but this time in Kosovo they decided not to make any concessions.
Kosovo Serbs responded by withdrawing from local government and police forces and threatening protests immediately after the first fines.
The EU has invited Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo’s Prime Minister Albin Kurti to come to Brussels urgently to resolve the conflict before it escalates. However, only today, November 20, Vučić confirmed, according to the Serbian edition of Novosti, that he will go to Brussels for negotiations the next day.
Recall that the situation in Kosovo became more complicated on July 31 against the background of the authorities’ decision to ban the entry of cars with Serbian number plates and relevant Serbian documents from August 1.
After the reaction of the US, Kosovo decided to postpone the procedure for imposing a ban on Serbian documents until September 1. And at the end of August, it was reported that Serbia and Kosovo resolved the dispute over the autonomers: Agreed Serbia cancels entry/exit documents for holders of Kosovo IDs identity cards, and Kosovo agrees not to introduce them for holders of identity cards of Serbia.
