The National Assembly of Bulgaria on Thursday, November 3, supported a resolution on providing military and technical assistance to Ukraine. This was reported by the Bulgarian news agency BGNES.
It was initiated by the parties GERB-SDS and Democratic Bulgaria. The document was supported by the majority of parliamentarians – 175, including the party of the former Acting Prime Minister of Bulgaria Stefan Yanev Bulgarian Rise.
Among the 49 deputies who opposed the resolution were representatives of the pro-Russian Renaissance parties and the Bulgarian Socialist Party. In addition, three MPs abstained.
Now the Bulgarian government must submit a draft decision on the supply of weapons to Ukraine to the parliament within 30 days.
During the discussion of the resolution, the deputy of the pro-European party Keeping Changes Daniel Laurer called the storage of large amounts of Soviet weapons in Bulgaria as a justification for the need to guarantee the country’s security. .
The leader of the Bulgarian socialists, Kornelia Ninova, reiterated that the supply of arms to Ukraine “could make Bulgaria a party to the conflict.”
As we have already written, the defense and foreign policy committees of the Bulgarian Parliament approved two proposals from the parties GERB and Democratic Bulgaria on military-technical assistance to Ukraine.
Note that Bulgaria has become one of the largest indirect suppliers of arms to Ukraine.
