The American company Tetra Tech will immediately begin training the Ukrainians to find and neutralize the ammunition.
The US State Department has allocated $47.6 million to Tetra Tech, which will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to Ukraine as part of a mine clearance project. This was reported in the press service of the State Department.
The company will train Ukrainians to find and defuse anti-personnel mines, unexploded and abandoned ordnance, improvised explosive devices and other explosive items.
The project provides for cooperation with the local non-governmental organization Ukrainian Association of Sappers in organizing groups of sappers.
“The government of Ukraine estimates that 160,000 square kilometers of its territory may be contaminated – about the size of Virginia, Maryland and Connecticut combined,” the State Department said.
The project provides for the allocation of 91.5 million dollars in Ukraine for demining. Washington will hand it over to Kyiv in full next year.
Recall that in Bucha, Kyiv region, the bees themselves “cleaned” their nest, which was inherited by the Russian military when fleeing from the city. The invaders tied two grenades together, attached them to the nest, replaced the pins with pins, and attached the nest cover and grenades with nylon thread. The idea is that when the nest is opened, an explosion occurs. However, no one came near the nest for six months. During this time, the bees flooded the lighters with honey and the pins did not come out.
We added that the Russian invaders placed mines over the gas pipelines in Balakliya, Kharkiv region.
