Western analysts highly appreciate the effectiveness of the Ukrainian underground in the temporarily occupied territories.
The Russian invaders have little chance to neutralize the partisan movement in Ukraine, because the latter is too powerful. In particular, since the beginning of the mass invasion of the Russian Federation, Ukrainian partisans have carried out dozens of confirmed attacks. Analysts at the Institute for the American Study of War (ISW) revealed this in their report.
Experts noted that in early November, the partisan movement removed at least 11 Russian occupation officials, as well as known collaborators.
The occupiers failed to effectively conceal the identities of collaborators and failed to provide basic security for Russian occupation officials in their homes and workplaces, the Institute notes.
The Russian invaders also failed to protect vulnerable sections of critical land lines: railway junctions and bridges, especially in rural areas.
“Ukrainian partisans collect information about the objectives of the Russian military and occupation authorities and pass it on to other Ukrainian partisans and the military,” the report said.
The Russian media largely ignores partisan attacks. They sometimes present them as “conventional Ukrainian military attacks” to minimize the effects of guerrilla warfare in Russian-occupied territory.
The lack of human resources in Russia is detrimental to the ability of Russian forces to effectively defend their rear areas from partisan attacks.
In addition, partisan attacks continued in the occupied parts of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions even after their annexation. Analysts note that this indicates the continued inability of Russian forces to properly hold the occupied territories.
It will be remembered that partisan groups continue to sabotage the railways in the Russian Federation, so it will be difficult for Russia to protect the railway network, which is used to move troops to Ukraine.
In addition, the Ukrainian underground successfully set fire to the location of Russian officials.
