The range and geographic range of fungal diseases is expanding worldwide due to global warming and travel.
The World Health Organization has published a report that presents the first list of fungi in the world that are dangerous to public health. This is stated on the organization’s website.
“Fungal pathogens pose a major threat to public health as they become more common and resistant to treatment, while there are only four antifungal drug classes and few drug candidates in clinical development. For most fungal pathogens, there are no rapid, sensitive diagnostic methods available, and the available tools are neither widely available worldwide nor available at an unacceptably high price.
List of fungi dangerous to health:
-
Cryptococcus neoformans
-
candida auris
-
Aspergillus fumigatus
-
candida albicans
-
Nakaseomyces glabrata (Candida glabrata)
-

It is noted that these forms of fungal infections mostly affect critically ill patients and patients with significant comorbidities related to the immune system. People with HIV, cancer, and organ transplants are at greater risk of infection.
It was previously reported that during the epidemic of 2022-2023 in Ukraine, the simultaneous circulation of influenza viruses and SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is expected.
