Russian planes did not have time to enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.
Near the US state of Alaska, US fighters spotted and intercepted two strategic bombers. As reported on Tuesday, October 18, in the Alaska Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), they identified these aircraft accurately. They turned out to be Russian Tu-95 Bear-H bombers.
They noted that the Russian planes remained in international airspace and did not enter the sovereign airspace of the United States or Canada.
NORAD tracks and accurately identifies foreign military aircraft entering the air defense zone.
They added that they do not consider such Russian activity in the North American air defense recognition zone a threat, nor do they consider it provocative.
“We remain ready to apply a range of response options to protect the sovereignty of North America and the Arctic,” the Command stressed.
It should be noted that the NORAD organization was created by two countries: the USA and Canada. The territory controlled by the organization is divided into three parts: the Alaska region, the Canadian region, and the continental US region.
Recall that in August, the North American Air Defense Command reported at least two active attempts by Russian reconnaissance aircraft to conduct flights in the air defense zone of Alaska.
