During the improvements of the village, the inscription, made in Latin, was plastered.
In the Transcarpathian region, the sign of the geographical center of Europe, established at the end of the 19th century, has been destroyed. The incident was reported by Ukrinform journalist Tatyana Kogutych on Facebook.
The monument in the village of Krugly in the Rakhiv region, on which there is a golden inscription in Latin, is covered with plaster.
“In the Rakhiv region, during the autumn landscaping work, (it is clear that) they improved the geographical sign of the center of Europe. There are many photos near it – I have it from school. So, during the improvement, the golden letters in Latin disappeared from the sign in Delovoy. They were painted! Obviously, the performers of the works did not know Latin – so they decided: why are there if no one can read them? – wrote Tatyana.
After a scandal in social networks, an artist approached the journalist, who was offered by the City Council to redraw the letters. He said that he refused to carry out the order, because you must first return the old Austro-Hungarian inscription to Latin.
The head of the Transcarpathian OVA, Viktor Mikita, has already reacted to the incident. He promised to return the damaged inscription.
“Regarding the “improvement” of the sign of the geographical center of Europe in Delovoy, where the historical inscription made in golden Latin letters was painted. I will not comment on the appropriateness and legality of such actions. in whose area of responsible for locating this monument, is already planning restoration activities,” the official wrote.
Recall that the Russian military destroyed a well-known landmark in the city of Izyum in the Kharkiv region – stone Polovtsian women.
