WASHINGTON (AP)-Kimberly Gilfoyle, the wife of former President Donald Trump’s eldest son, met Monday with a Congressional committee investigating the U.S. Capitol uprising more than a month later. The voluntary interview with lawmakers ended abruptly – according to someone familiar with the case.
Gilfoil, 53, arrived at the Federal Office building on Capitol Hill on Monday morning, where the committee is conducting virtual and in-person interviews to meet with lawmakers. Discuss personal testimony.
The committee investigating the attack sought testimony and tapes from Gilfoil, who spoke at a Trump rally held at the Ellipse White House on Jan. 6, 2021, before the Capitol uprising. Undo Trump’s election defeat. Lawmakers said Gilfoyle, who heads Trump’s victory committee, funded his campaign, also raised money for the rally, and interacted directly with key attendees and its organizers.
A nine -member group sent Gilfoil a subpoena last month after interrupting a voluntary interview against the presence of lawmakers against him. The committee’s decision to call it quits was unusual because lawmakers tried to involve most members of Trump’s family on a voluntary basis.
Joe Takopina, Gilfoil’s attorney, did not respond to a request for comment Monday, but said in a statement that his client had “done nothing wrong” and would still testify.
The committee said it received some documents it originally requested from Gilfoil, but is now trying to find out more about his meetings with the former president and his family on the morning of the Oval Office attack.
“Ms. Gilfoyle met Donald Trump at the White House, spoke at a rally before the riots on Jan. 6 and seems to have played an important role in organizing the event and raising funds,” said Benny Thompson, a Democrat of Mississippi.
Gilfoil’s appearance in recent weeks was made by a committee from a series of interviews in Trump’s inner circle. On Tuesday was there Stephen Miller, who is Trump’s best aide. Almost eight hours interrogated.
Former President Daughter Ivanka Trump And her husband, Jared Kushner, also spoke to the committee last month and gave several hours of testimony that members of the investigation called.
