It is difficult for the air defense system of Ukraine, which exists today, to shoot missiles at a speed of 3,000 km/h.
It is difficult for the Ukrainian air defense system (air defense) to shoot missiles flying at a speed of more than three thousand km / h. This was announced by the spokesman of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ignat in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, published on Friday, September 9.
“It is easier for us to shoot down the Caliber, Kh-101, Kh-555. In addition, we are able to shoot down the Kh-59 guided air missiles. The rest – Kh-22, Kh-31, Onyx missiles, Iskander tactical missiles – our method does not shoot effectively. Missiles that fly at a speed of about 900 km / h are a more acceptable target for the methods that we have. Those that fly at a speed of more than 3 thousand km / h is difficult for our air defense system to intercept,” he said.
According to the military, Ukraine needs to be armed with modern systems – NASAMS, IRIS-T.
“Manufacturers claim that these systems can even shoot down Iskanders. But we have no confirmed results, because for the first time our country found itself in such conditions when the defense systems of air has to withstand missile attacks,” he said.
Ignat added that the Western partners agreed to transfer these air defense systems to Ukraine.
NASAMS is a mobile Norwegian anti-aircraft missile system designed to engage maneuvering aerodynamic targets at low and medium altitudes.
The IRIS-T is a short-range air-to-air missile equipped with a cooled infrared homing head.
Note that Ukraine’s air defenses are down from 50 to 70 percent of Russian missiles.
In addition, Ukraine has developed a unique air defense system – there is nothing like it anywhere in the world.
