Drinks and gourmet food are served on board during the £50,000 flight.
British civil servants used the country’s Prime Minister’s official plane for “drinking in the sky.” It was announced on September 2 by the Sky News channel.
It was noted that several officials took part in the 91-minute trip to the UK, which cost 50,000 pounds.
According to media reports, they were served “gourmet food with a selection of alcoholic beverages.”
Flight data shows the aircraft took off from Stansted and headed to the Lake District before returning.
The government said in a statement that the aircraft was “legally required” to fly on September 4 to avoid significant additional storage costs.
The trip was allegedly required by some government employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that after the “recent reconfiguration of the aircraft” it “still meets the ministerial requirements.”
Labor Shadow Trade Minister Emily Thornberry called the officials’ behavior “disgraceful.”
“This would be absolutely shameful behavior at the best of times, but in the midst of the current crisis in our country, it is so shameful that it is impossible to put into words,” he stressed.
According to Sky News, the Royal Air Force Voyager aircraft is used by Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the royal family. In a recent £900,000 “controversial update” it was repainted white.
News of the so-called “fun on board” comes as Johnson and his allies launch a legal battle against a House of Commons inquiry into Parliament’s lies about parties during the lockdown.
