Defense Ministers of the Union member countries approved military assistance to Ukraine in the form of training events at various levels.
The defense ministers of the member states of the European Union agreed to create an EU training mission for the Ukrainian army. This was said at a press conference by EU High Representative for Foreign and Defense Policy Josep Borrell on Tuesday, August 30, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
An informal meeting took place in the Czech capital of Prague. The head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov also took part in it.
“The European Union is united in its support for Ukraine, and member states remain ready to continue to support as much and as long as necessary,” Borrell outlined the European Union’s position.
The High Representative also noted that “needs are not always related to military supplies and equipment, but also to the adjustment of their armed forces.”
“It’s not just about the war, it’s about how they do that war, about the education and training of the soldiers, the preparation of the military structure. There are many initiatives in this regard. These needs are significant , and we must ensure The broad scope of these efforts. All Member States agree on this matter and about the initiation of the work necessary to define the parameters for the military assistance mission of EU for Ukraine,” the European official insisted.
Borrell added that no official decision was made, as it was an informal meeting.
“It is not about making a decision, but about the decision to start the preparatory work (on the mission), which includes contacts with the Ukrainians on the one hand, and to determine the legislative parameters to determine the concept of the management of emergency (of the mission). The Minister of Defense of Ukraine showed us a list of training activities at different levels, in different timeframes – short, medium and long-term that they need,” concluded he.
Recall that Reznikov said that the war could end with the victory of Kyiv before the end of the year. This is possible under the condition of coordinated assistance from partners and the tightening of economic pressure on the Russian Federation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said that the military part of Russia’s war against Ukraine could be completed before the end of this year.
