The first German Gepard anti-aircraft guns have already arrived in Ukraine.
These complexes will cover important infrastructure facilities from attacks by helicopters and aircraft at low and ultra-low altitudes, Military TV of Ukraine reported.
The anti-aircraft installation has long been a powerful element of the air defense of the armies of Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. But in the 2000s, it was abandoned, and is now used in other countries of the world.
Anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery “Gepard” is already in Ukraine among the best in its class, experts say. They are capable of hitting targets at a distance of 100 m to 4 km. The crew consists of only three people: driver, commander and gunner.

“Gepard” began to be developed in the 1960s. The installation is based on the chassis of the Leopard 1 tank.
The turret, capable of making a full rotation, is equipped with two 35 mm Oerlikon KDA cannons and two radars that determine the target at a distance of up to 15 km. In the modification of the APU 1 A2, a digital computer is installed that can receive data from other radars – in fact, see the target outside its zone.
The main ammunition load is 320 shells for hitting air targets. There are also 20 shells for ground targets in the store. The rate of fire of each gun is 550 rounds per minute, that is, together – 1.1 thousand shots at a target.
“Gepard” is able to work in conditions of intense enemy electronic countermeasures. Earlier it was reported that 30 units of Gepard should be transferred to Ukraine. At least 100 servicemen of the Ukrainian army are known to have studied in Germany to operate these self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
Earlier, Rakurs reported that Germany had solved the problem with ammunition for Gepard anti-aircraft guns, which it promised to Ukraine. The government has agreed with a supplier from Norway.
