Ukrainian prison attack to be investigated
The UN has announced a special mission to investigate last week’s attack on a prison in Donetsk, which killed fifty imprisoned Ukrainian citizens and whose authorship is the subject of cross-charges between Moscow and Kyiv.
This was announced on Wednesday by UN Secretary General António Guterres, who confirmed that both Russia and Ukraine had asked the organization to conduct this investigation.
Guterres explained that the terms of reference for the mission are currently being prepared, which must be accepted by both sides, and the search for experts who can integrate it is starting.
The Portuguese recalled that the United Nations does not have the authority to conduct a criminal investigation, but it does have the authority to organize an operation that is in charge of collecting evidence to try to clarify what happened.
