Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his people were fighting for freedom against Russia’s attacks on civilians in an interview at the government building in Kiev.
“They say we’re following Western values,” Zelensky told CBS’s 60 Minutes program on Sunday. “I always say, ‘What are Western values?’ Don’t people living in the US or Europe also love children? You don’t want their kids to go to college, don’t you want their grandfather to live to 100? We have the same values. “
“I never thought this right would be so expensive,” he added.
“We defend the right to life.

Zelensky visited the Bucha suburb of Kiev this week, where Associated Press reporters identified the dead civilians, some with their hands tied behind their backs and others with signs of torture and rape.
Asked to describe what he saw with his own eyes in Bucha, Zelensky said: “Death, only death”.
Russia denies the atrocities and blames Ukraine for Bucha’s killings.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly turned his attention to eastern Ukraine. On Friday, Russian forces fired a rocket at a train station in Kramatorsk, east of Donetsk, killing more than 30 people and injuring more than 100.
