New York has declared a state of emergency over monkeypox

According to the latest data, 1,345 cases of monkeypox have been identified in New York. California is the second most affected state.

New York Governor Kathy Hokul declared a state of emergency due to the monkeypox outbreak. One in four cases of infection in the United States occurs in New York.

“After reviewing the latest data on the monkeypox outbreak in the state, I am declaring a state of emergency … to strengthen our efforts to counter this outbreak,” the governor said, as quoted by his press office.

According to the latest data, 1,345 cases of monkeypox have been identified in New York. California is the second most affected state with 799 infections.

The WHO had previously said that the monkeypox outbreak could escalate in just a few months. There is almost no chance of stopping the spread of the disease. The organization has declared the disease a public health emergency.

On the eve it was learned that in Spain after being infected with monkeypox, a man died. This is the first recorded death of the disease in the country and in the whole of Europe.
