Moscow contributed to the project in “Natural Form” – by providing relevant technologies.
Russia cannot be excluded from the project of construction of a international thermonuclear experimental reactor (ITR) in France -the world’s largest scientific project in the field of controlled thermonuclear synthesis. This is stated in the European Commissioner’s response for energy issues Dan Yorgensen to a request from European Parliament representatives.
“The ITER agreement does not provide for the possibility of ending the participation or suspension of the rights of any members, including participation in the ITER Council – the leading body of the project,” Yornsen said.
According to him, the document only provides the “possibility of a voluntary release of a member from the participants.”
Russia has not fulfilled the chairman’s duties of ITER’s rotation for the past two years.
Moscow also contributed to the “Natural Form” project – by providing appropriate technology.
“Bilateral contacts and Russia’s contact have been reduced,” the European Commission assured in response.
In addition, Brussels pointed out that further work, development and operation of the reactor does not depend on Russia’s intellectual ownership rights.
The European Commission plans to adopt a approach to the EU in the field of thermonuclear synthesis, which relies on the leading role of the European Union. The document aims to create a competitive industrial ecosystem of European thermonuclear technologies and expanding sector financing.
According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the ITER reactor weighs 23,000 tons and is about 30 meters high. It is located in an area of 180 hectares. The project involves 35 countries, including France, other EU countries, Russia, China, India, Japan, South Korea and USA.
The first test launch was scheduled for 2025. A full reactor launch was expected in 2035.
The international experimental thermonuclear reactor is an experimental project that provides for the construction, test and use of Tokamad, which, thanks to the reaction of thermonuclear synthesis, can obtain a significant amount of energy without carbon dioxide releases and the risk of radiation can be obtained.
Keep in mind that Bulgaria is the first time it has imported fuel for nuclear power plants not from Russia, but from the USA. And Armenia discusses the construction of a new nuclear power plant with the United States.
