It is currently unknown if Vladimir Putin has the courage to visit such a summit. Therefore, a convincing, the German Chancellor is required.
Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will meet in the next two weeks. German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said while talking to journalists, Reuters reported on Tuesday, August 19.
According to him, President US Donald Trump joined yesterday with Putin at a rest of Washington negotiations between the leaders of Ukraine, USA, NATO and European countries.
“At a rest at the meeting, the American president spoke on the phone with the President of Russia and said that the meeting between the President of Russia and the President of Ukraine will take place in the next two weeks,” Mertz said.
He noted that Trump had agreed to send another invitation to a tripartite meeting after that so that the negotiations would “really start.” At the same time, the assembly area has not been defined.
“We do not know if the President of Russia has the courage to visit such a summit. Therefore, a belief is necessary,” Merts said.
The Chancellor added that Trump was impressed with the fact that the people of Europe have acted as a united front and that their negotiations with the US administration will now continue with details about security guarantees for Ukraine.
“It’s really clear that the whole of Europe should participate in it,” Mertz’s summary.
Earlier, the media reported that Putin went to a meeting with Zelensky until the end of August. He said about this in a conversation with Trump. The meeting must first take place in bilateral format, and eventually – with the participation of the leaders of Ukraine, USA and the Russian Federation.
