Astronomers probably found a planet that was still formed, cutting a complex pattern in gas and dust, which surrounds its young star HD 135344B, located 440 light years from the ground.
This was reported by the press service of the European Southern Observatory (ESO).
With the help of a very large ESO (VLT) telescope, scientists watched a protoplanetary disk with noticeable spiral sleeves, finding clear signs of a planet located in the internal areas.
It is noted that this is the first time when astronomers discovered the embryo of the planet built in a disc spiral.
We will never witness the formation of the Earth, but here, around a young star, at a distance of 440 light years, we can observe the birth of a planet in real time, ”the researchers emphasize.
It is assumed that the future planet is twice as much as Jupiter, and as far from his dawn as Neptune from the Sun. Scientists can now see how it forms the environment in a protoplanetic disk when it turns into a fully formed planet.
Protoplanetary discs are observed around other young stars, and they often have complex patterns, such as rings, intervals or spirals. Astronomers have long been predicting that these structures were caused by “children’s children” who sweep the material rotating around their mother-star. But by this time they could not catch any of them “at the crime scene.”
